Time waits for no man they say. That’s certainly true when it comes to hair loss. Hair transplants can stave off the inevitable for some years, but eventually, our hair follicles fail us. Fortunately, the “bullet head” is back. Popularized by Hollywood action stars like Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel and Samuel Jackson, bald is beautiful.
Check out late night entertainment icons. Letterman’s band leader Paul Shaffer sports a smooth dome, as does Leno’s funky guitarist Kevin Eubanks. Game show host Howie Mandel has turned his bald pate into a winning signature look. Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins turned bald edgy and hip. Chicago Bulls basketball legend Michael Jackson made it elegant. Hollywood’s Ving Rhames made it sexy.
For many men ready to embrace their baldness, earlier hair transplants can present a problem. Harvesting often leaves an unsightly scar around the back of the skull that can be distracting. Paramedical tattoo artist Melany Whitney has the recognized expertise to camouflage harvest site scars to create a handsome, natural appearance. Remarkable coverage of the scar area can be achieved, giving you with that uniformly smooth, sexy look that women love. The art of tattooing used for facial enhancement is not a new technique. In fact, tattooing for beautification of bodies and faces has been found to have been used on mummies dating as far back as 12,000 B.C. Julius Caesar even wrote about tattooing in one of his own personal journals.
From Asia to Europe ancient peoples embraced tattooing as ritual, beautification, and culture. The popularity of tattooing has waxed and waned over time. In 787 A.D. the Catholic Pope of the time even banned tattooing as at that time it was tied to pagan ritual. During World War I, tattooing was very popular and this is the time that cosmetic tattooing became accepted.
Since that time, tattoos and permanent makeup have become accepted mainstream personal beautifications and cosmetic enhancements. While true tattoos really strive to use the body as the artist’s canvas and stand out separate from it, permanent cosmetics strive to enhance and become a part of the body working to enhance and blend in, not stand out as an artistic rendering. The best permanent eyebrows are those that imitate life yet enhance the shape of your face; causing others to admire the overall effect not to see just eyebrows.
That being said the best cosmetic tattooing is done by true artists who specialize in just the enhancement of facial features. This is where Melany Whitney stands head and shoulders above her peers; she is a true artist who looks at each client’s face looking for the right shape, angle or color to bring the hidden personal beauty alive through her craft.

Breast cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomy are often anxious to proceed with breast reconstruction surgery. When the trauma and worry of surgery and subsequent treatment end, they are eager to move forward and reclaim their femininity. It can be hard to wait when you just want to feel whole again.
Difficult as it may be, it is necessary to allow the body to adjust after surgery so that the finished breast reconstruction will look natural. After the breast mound has been reconstructed, breast cancer survivors must wait another two to three months before the nipple and areola can be recreated with paramedical tattooing. It takes time for swelling in the breast mound to reduce and for the new breast to settle into its natural sag. It is necessary to wait so that the permanent cosmetics technician can correctly place the nipple and areola in line with the other breast to achieve a naturally symmetrical appearance.
Observing first-hand the pain and doubt that affect breast cancer survivors as they struggle to rebuild their sense of self, permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo artist Melany Whitney has developed a unique paramedical tattooing technique that creates the three-dimensional appearance of a nipple and areola on a reconstructed breast. Stubble is in! Just tune in Leno or Letterman or Conan. You rarely see clean-shaven male movie stars anymore. Today, virile stubble is the height of male facial fashion. Most men look good with stubble, and women find the look uber sexy. That bit of coarse hair around the chin and up the cheeks adds machismo swagger to your personal statement. Stubble adds depth and drama to the face. It strengths the chin and calls attention to the eyes. Stubble adds maturity to a baby face and subtracts years from a middle-aged face. Well-groomed stubble enhances your personal mystique.
Unfortunately, facial scars can make stubble growth appear uneven or unattractive. A childhood fall, a motorcycle wipeout, a shrapnel scar during service — any number of life’s mishaps and misfortunes can mar a man’s appearance. Hair follicles destroyed during injury and scarring can result in an unsightly and distracting bald spot in the beard area that detracts from an otherwise well-groomed appearance.
Master paramedical tattoo artist Melany Whitney uses micropigmentation to artfully camouflage scar tissue. She can apply a permanent 5′oclock shadow to scarred areas so they blend with your natural stubble as in the before (left) and after (right) pictures above. Every four seconds another woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Many will lose one or both breasts during their courageous fight against this disease. Breast reconstruction has become a common practice in America and an integral element in the healing process after a mastectomy. Complete breast reconstruction recreates not only the shape and balance of the breast mounds, but strives to recreate the appearance of a normal areola and nipple. This is what makes a breast mound look real, giving a healing cancer patient renewed confidence in her appearance as a woman.
Too often this final important step in the breast reconstruction process is performed by the individual’s surgeon, his nurse or a technician. While these individuals may be skilled in their respective fields, the application of paramedical tattooing to create a natural-looking nipple and areola is a highly specialized skill. Too often a cancer survivor must suffer one more indignity when inexpertly applied micropigmentation fails to produce a natural-looking or even acceptable result.
The Whitney Center for Permanent Cosmetics‘ Melany Whitney is a nationally-recognized expert in paramedical tattooing. Her compassion for the breast cancer survivors she treats led Melany to develop a revolutionary micropigmentation technique that successfully creates the illusion of a lifelike areola and three-dimensional nipple. Through Melany’s unique blend of technical expertise and artistry, breast cancer survivors are able to again have normal-looking, attractive breasts.

My friend has beautiful, almost translucent skin and very pale, natural, platinum blonde hair. Her biggest beauty challenge has always been that her eyebrows are so naturally pale that they are nearly invisible, giving her face a surreal, slightly robotic appearance. But in her 20s, during the stressful pursuit of her PhD, my friend completely lost her eyelashes and eyebrows to Trichotillomania, also called trich or TTM. Nearly 2.5 million people in the U.S. suffer from this impulse control disorder in which sufferers feel a compulsion to pull out their own hair. In some cases, the hair grows back; but in my friend’s case, it did not. Like many Trichotillomania sufferers, she was embarrassed by her appearance and ill-at-ease at professional and social gatherings.
Permanent cosmetics can help Trichotillomania sufferers like my friend regain their self-confidence. Nationally-recognized permanent cosmetics expert Melany Whitney has the skill and artistic ability to create the illusion of natural-looking eyelashes and gorgeous brows. Using permanent micropigmentation, Melany is even able to fill-in and permanently camouflage bald spots on the scalp. Visit our website to view before and after pictures of Trichotellomania sufferers who have been helped by Melany Whitney.

The man was elegantly attired. His tuxedo crisp, his bowtie perfectly knotted, his studs beautiful cultured pearls. But what I saw as I descended the stairs at this glittering affair was not the powerful corporate leader, but the ugly scars left by hair transplant surgery. The scarring negated the man’s effort to appear younger and more virile. Instead, the scarring evoked distaste and pity.
Hair loss can demean a man’s sense of self-esteem. With the loss of every strand of hair, a man feels his youth falling away. Even the most powerful men feel the next generation nipping at their heels when their hair starts to thin. Many men turn to hair transplant surgery to mitigate hair loss and retain their competitive edge. Unfortunately, surgery at the harvest site can leave an unsightly scar that circles the back of the skull. Visible through the hair, it can destroy the desired effect or create an uneven appearance.
A skilled permanent cosmetics technician can employ paramedical tattooing techniques to artistically camouflage harvest site scarring. Paramedical tattooing for men can make the ugly scars of transplant surgery practically invisible, turning them into a nearly imperceptible thin line that no longer attracts attention. To view before and after pictures of scar camouflage results using permanent cosmetics, visit The Whitney Center for Permanent Cosmetics site for men.

The Cleveland Clinic has pioneered the first face transplant in the U.S. You may have read about the radical procedure last month in which Dr. Maria Siemionow and a team of specialists replaced 80% of a woman’s face with that of a female cadaver in a complex operation that took 23 hours. It was only the fourth face transplant attempted in the world. While the thought of undergoing such drastic surgery may seem horrific, the procedure offers new hope for burn victims and others who have been horribly disfigured. Dr. Siemionow’s research and efforts were funded in part by a $42 million U.S. military grant designed to restore severely disfigured veterans. The military is collaborating with the Cleveland Clinic to treat service members injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That the medical community has developed the capacity to perform a face transplant points out the extreme duress people experience when their face is disfigured or scarred by an accident, injury or surgical procedure. Our face is our window on the world. A pleasant face invites people to connect. Knowing we look good boosts our self confidence. Paramedical tattooing can camouflage scars and hide the imperfections that make us uncomfortable or embarrassed about our appearance.
