Tips for Beautiful Lips

To ensure that your lips look beautiful and youthful, there are a few beauty ‘rules’ in particular that you should always follow.  First, always wear chap stick or moisturizing lip gloss, preferably one that contains SPF.  Chap Stick will keep your lips moisturized while SPF will keep your lips from photo aging, which will cause them to look, shrunken, wrinkled, and dry.  This fact brings us to our next tip.  Even in our younger years, our lips can become dry, scaly, and even appear wrinkly at times.  During those times it is important to avoid piling heavy lipstick atop chapped lips.

Lips will appear dryer and color will take on an undesirably uneven look.  Before applying lipstick to dry lips, be sure to exfoliate.   To inexpensively exfoliate your lips, you can use a toothbrush and a bit of Vaseline.  Apply Vaseline to your lips as if you were applying lip gloss.  Next, use the toothbrush to massage the Vaseline in a circular motion for a few seconds.  When finished, wipe off any excess Vaseline.  This should leave your lips looking younger and fresher.  Repeat this technique as needed to eventually reveal younger looking lips.  Soon, applying lipstick will become much easier.

An alternative way to get youthful looking beautiful lips year round is to consult with a permanent makeup artist who offers permanent lip color.  With beautiful, even, permanent lip color applied, you’ll only need to apply chap stick regularly to be sure your lips are looking great.

What’s the Best Beauty Advice You’ve Ever Been Given?

Smashion, a forum for beauty and fashion lovers alike, recently asked their readers the question “What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?”  The advice and tips these ladies shared were a great deal of fun to read through and certainly bear repeating.

Several readers weighed in with the tip “drink plenty of water and get a good night’s sleep.”  This advice is certainly a basic building block of health and beauty.  Another favorite tip shared by readers?  Always wear sunscreen and moisturizer.  Another bit of excellent advice, both moisturizer and sunscreen (or even better yet, moisturizer with sunscreen), help your skin to look young.

One reader, who goes by the screen name pandikah in the forums, shared another point permanent cosmetics artists as well as women in Miami and all over the world would certainly second.  She urged fellow forum members to “take 5 minutes to do [their] hair and makeup” no matter how they’re feeling in the morning.  She reminds us that “the best outfit can be defeated if you’re not putting your best face forward”

The great thing about permanent makeup, however, is that you might not even need the full five minutes before walking out the door!  Just wash up, put on your moisturizing sunscreen and you’re ready to go!  So, what’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?

More Common Makeup Mistakes

Last week we shared just a few of the most common makeup mistakes made by women of all ages.  Today we’re going to share more common makeup mishaps.  Steer clear of these beauty faux pas and you’ll be on your way to looking your best.

Makeup Mistake # 3 – Using a Foundation that is too Dark for you

It’s only natural to want to look healthy by adding a little bit of color in your skin.  In the quest for color and a bronzed look, however, there are certainly wrong directions in which to turn.  Some women choose a foundation that is darker than their natural skin tone in an attempt to look darker.  Your foundation should actually match your natural skin tone.  If not, you run the risk of looking unnatural and cartoon like.  Stick with self tanners and dust on bronzing powder to get a darker look.

Makeup Mistake # 4 – Applying Lipstick to Chapped Lips

Colorful and vibrant lips look younger and healthier.  This is why women often turn to permanent lip color or daily lipstick and lip gloss.  Remember, however, that applying lip color to chapped lips can end up making you look older.  Keep your lips looking healthy by drinking plenty of water.  If you have permanent lip color, keep your lips looking vibrant and prevent fading by always wearing Chap Stick.

Makeup Mistakes to Avoid

Do you remember when you were just a pre-teen and everything about makeup was new?  Some of us may have had the advantage of being directly taught how to apply makeup, but when it comes to proper makeup application for many young girls, no formal training is available.  They’re left to fend for themselves in a world of beauty trial and error.

If not told by a friend about a makeup mistake at an early age, a woman may be stuck making the same makeup mistakes well into adulthood!  Could you be one of those women?  Read on as we share some of the common makeup mistakes to avoid.

Makeup Mistake # 1 – Not blending your foundation with your hairline:

Not applying makeup up through to your hairline and just a little beyond can leave you looking like you’re wearing a mask.  Blend your base into your hairline and back to your ears as well to ensure coverage looks natural.

Makeup Mistake # 2 – Not paying any mind to your eyebrows:

Many women, regardless of age, are guilty of not grooming their eyebrows.  This is a no-no because perfect eyebrows can really make your face. Tweeze stray hairs and use brow powder to get well groomed brows, or if you’re intimidated by brow shaping, consult with a permanent makeup artist to have permanent brows applied.

Stay tuned to our Permanently Beautiful blog for next week where we’ll share more makeup mistakes to avoid!

Do you Wear Makeup on the Beach?

Well known women’s beauty magazine, Glamour, recently asked readers whether or not they wear makeup to the beach.  Reporter Beth Shapouri was inspired to ask subscribers the question after reflecting on how much hassle many women go through when they hit the sands.

Many readers reported that they at least wear some makeup to the beach.  Since many women are going out to share the day with friends and even possibly meet someone new when they are going to beach, it is certainly hard for them to stomach heading out looking like they just rolled out of bed.

The types of beach makeup that so many responders reported just not being able to live without included eye makeup, concealer, and lightly colored lip gloss, however many noted that while wearing sunscreen, getting any of these items to stay put is tough.

Women who live in places like Miami and who then, naturally, go to the beach often can save time and spare themselves stress through the application of permanent cosmetics.  An expert permanent makeup artist will actually listen to you about what makeup you simply can’t live without and then make sure that you never have to – sunscreen and eyeliner running in your eyes no more!  Beauty doesn’t have to be painful!

Makeup for Work

Do you often wonder if you’re wearing too much or too little makeup to work?  If so, you’re not alone.  Knowing exactly how to apply makeup and how much of it to apply isn’t something every career woman has been taught.

Many experts recommend that women in professions where they will be working in an office or with the public should be sure to apply a good base to ensure that skin appears clear as well as eye liner and mascara to ensure that they appear energetic, awake, and able.

There have been several cases throughout the United States in which women have actually been fired due to refusal to wear makeup and US employers do maintain the legal right to ask a female to resign for not wearing makeup.  Many employers consider makeup to be part of regular female hygiene.

If you are a female professional and you are allergic to regular makeup, lack the time to apply makeup, or if applying makeup is frustrating to you, permanent cosmetics offer a stress saving solution.  Consult with an expert permanent makeup artist to find out how you can look your best everyday for work without ever having to apply your own makeup.

Huge Makeup Trend for Fall/Winter 2011 – Vibrant Lip Color

Whether you call them vibrant, vamp, sexy, or bright, colorful lips are certainly a makeup trend for fall and winter 2011.  The Fall/Winter 2011-2012 runway shows featured lips in a big way.  From Diane von Furstenberg and Yves Saint Laurent, many designers opted to make lips stand out beautifully using lip makeup in shades for that were vibrant or saturated.

Some designers showed their collections on models whose pouts were gorgeous in shades of bright orange to bright red to even burgundy and dark purple.  Others opted for more natural tones that kept lips looking nude, yet beautiful.

Fashion bloggers are calling it the season of contradiction, as there are two major trending makeup looks for lips that are both entirely different.  Fashionistas this season will be right on the mark whether wearing a neutral nude or a bright shade of lipstick. There is one thing the two trends have in common, however.  Lips need to be healthy looking and well shaped for both of these trending looks, as both put quite the focus on lips.  If you are looking for the perfect lip shade this season or to get healthier looking, more symmetrical lips permanently, consult with an expert permanent makeup artist to learn more about permanent lip color.

Hot Climate Makeup Tips

Did you know that wearing makeup in a warm climate such can be tough, especially one that is hot and humid like Miami, Florida?  The same holds true for a hot day at the beach, a jog on a warm day, or a night out at a literally hot night club.  Humidity and sweat make traditional makeup smudge and wear off quickly.  Waterproof makeup can be extremely uncomfortable and heavy as it does not ‘breathe’ well.  Many women deal with the heat going out sans makeup.

The fact remains, however, that if given the choice, most women do want to look their best no matter what activity they’re doing – Florida weather or not!  So what’s a girl who lives in or is visiting Florida or another hot climate to do?  Fortunately, there is a great solution.

Having permanent makeup applied by a Florida expert permanent makeup artist will allow you to look your best at all times no matter how hot you are and even while swimming.  With permanent eyebrows and lip color applied along with beautiful permanent eyeliner that stays put all year round, you’ll be able to dance, swim, or live anywhere warm without ever thinking twice about how great you look.  These procedures are even downtime free.

Makeup Tips for Rainy Days in New York and New Jersey

If you’re in the New York or New Jersey area, chances are you’ve been heading out in your fair share of rainy weather lately.  Women who commute to work, especially those who have to walk a fair distance to and from a train station or parking garage to the office, tend to dread rainy days.  Heading in for a big presentation with makeup that is runny from the rain and humidity isn’t fun for anyone.  Fortunately there are some solutions to this problem.  Today we’ll share some rainy day beauty and makeup tips.

Firstly, before you apply any foundation makeup, remember to use a moisturizer (one with sunscreen is always recommended, remember sun damage still happens on rainy days).  An added benefit of moisturizer is that it tends to make makeup last longer.   Try having an arsenal of waterproof products like waterproof mascara and mascara to wear on rainy days.  You don’t have to wear these heavy products every day, but having them around for bad weather days can help.

Remember, if you’re looking to look beautiful every day, rainy days included, schedule a consultation to have permanent makeup applied by an expert.  One of the best advantages to permanent cosmetics is that they simply don’t run.  After a quick patting of a facial towel, you’ll be ready go after walking through any amount of water, your eyes, lips, and eyebrows, still looking perfect for the day ahead.

Mascara – A Brief History

The desire to darken and lengthen eyelashes can be traced as far back as 4000 BC.  Ancient Egyptian women as well as men are known to have used a substance called kohl to darken their eyelashes as well as their eyelids and eyebrows.

In Victorian times, western women began to spend more and more time on beauty regimens, adopting a daily habit of using homemade product to create the illusion of longer, darker, lashes.  During this era, women made a type of mascara at home consisting of a mixture of ash and elderberry juice.  It was not until the 1900s that a product known as “mascara” became available for purchase when chemist Eugene Rimmel developed the first version of the beloved product using petroleum jelly and other substances.

Early mascaras, although always known to enhance beauty and sex appeal, were still considered very inconvenient and messy.  From goopy gels to brushes that needed to be dipped into soapy cakes, mascara was far from quick to apply.  It wasn’t until the 1960’s that mascara became widely available in the brush and tube form commonly known today.

Although mascara has come quite a long way, even today’s version of mascara can be inconvenient, messy, and even runny.  This is one of the many reasons many men and women in NYC and elsewhere are choosing permanent cosmetics.  Fortunately there is a now a mess free alternative to get the look of longer, thicker, lashes.  Learn more about permanent lash enhancement here.
