Can You Tell the Difference Between Day and Evening Makeup These Days?

As women, we hear an awful lot about day wear and evening wear, day makeup and evening makeup.  Although these looks may seem simple to decipher, as times change and trends vary, lines can sometimes become blurred between makeup that should be worn during the day and makeup that should be worn during the evening.

For instance, in our last post, we discussed how bright and bold eye colors are popular for Spring and Summer 2011.  This look can be seen on the runway and has been seen on the celebrities off of the runway during both day and evening.

In sticking with tradition, although the bright and bold makeup look is a fun one to experiment with while trending, it isn’t one that usually works for most women during the day.  Lifestyles such as working with co-workers office make it not ideal due to its distracting nature.

Usually, during the day, you’ll want to try a look that is more natural and subtle.  This is not only because it is more lifestyle appropriate for most women, but also because lighting during the day can be more harsh and unflattering to bold makeup looks.  Instead, try to keep the bright and bold looks, dramatic smoky eyes, and heavier makeup for evening when lighting is often more flattering.

With permanent makeup you can get a look for everyday that is natural and subtle.  Whenever the occasion calls for more drama, simply put on a bit more mascara or eye shadow over the beautiful natural permanent makeup look you already have and you’ll be ready to go.

Makeup Trends for Spring and Summer 2011

Makeup trends that can be seen both on celebrities and on the runway for Spring and Summer 2011 have take a pretty interesting turn!  Since makeup trends change with fashion trends, it would only make sense that this season’s makeup trends are pretty bold.

For Spring and Summer 2011, bold lips are in according to reports.  Sexy bold shades like red, orange, and hot pink have all been seen on the runway and are also being popularized by pop stars like Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.  Beauty experts recommend that you choose a matte version of these shades this season rather than a glossy one to draw attention to the bold color itself.

Another makeup look we’re seeing for Spring and Summer 2011 is boldly natural – makeup that looks hard to detect and flawless with natural color on the lips and well blended even foundation only to be accented by popping and bold black mascara.  For this look, even the eyeliner color is neutral if any is used at all.  Dolce and Gabbana and Lacoste both adorned their models beautiful faces on the runway with this look for Spring/Summer 2011.

Last but not least, a big trend for Spring and Summer 2011 is wearing bright eye makeup.  Celebrities are doing this for both day and evening.  Bold eyeshadows such as orange, pink, green, and blue enhance eyes and create and artful look when done correctly.

Save Time and Money with Permanent Make-Up

Billions of dollars are spent on beauty products (many of them cosmetics) in the United States alone. According to a recent report by the New York Daily News, the average woman spends about $13,000 on makeup during her lifetime. Another survey by the UK Daily Mail has shown that women in the UK spend about $180 every 12 months on makeup.
Other astounding findings of the survey include that “about 70 percent of women never leave the house without makeup tools like lip gloss and eye liner for quick touch-ups” and that a large number of women report wearing make-up 24-7 – yes, even to bed!

There are several problems with these findings. Aside from the financial burden of needing to apply make-up each day, wearing make-up 24-7 can irritate the skin, causing break-outs, enlarged pores, and other dermatological issues. Not to mention, women can lose hundreds and thousands of hours throughout their life time “putting on their face,” and completing touch ups. At work, on dates, around spouses, and in the public eye, many women experience anxiety when their make-up is not completed to their highest standards.

The good news is there is a better way. Permanent cosmetics help women to avoid appearance related anxiety and to save time and money. An expert permanent make-up artist can ensure that you look your best every day and night for a fraction of the cost the average women spends on make-up throughout their lifetime. When you’re willing to take the next step to improving your life through permanent make-up, it is important to contact one of the foremost permanent cosmetic experts in the country. What Eye Color Shades Work for My Eye Color?

Last Tuesday on our permanent make-up blog, we discussed some basic eye make up tips.  It is important to find out what eye color is right for you by deciding whether or not you want to go for the subtle natural look, or if you’d instead like your eyes to really “pop” and be highlighted.  Check out the following tips for highlighting your eyes.

Brown Eyes

If you have brown eyes, you have a large selection of shades to choose from.  To make brown eyes pop, choose an indigo blue eye liner or a plum purple.  This can really bring out the varied tones in the iris.  Remember, you can always go for greens, champagnes, bronzes, or golds if you want to go for a natural look.  Black eyeliner always works too, but can create a harsh look on fair skin tones.

Blue Eyes

If you want to make blue eyes pop, you might want to try a “burnt orange” shade or a brownish-orange.  Contrary to popular belief, blue eyeliners and shadow won’t usually make blue eyes look bluer.  Instead, warm colors tend to contrast the coolness of blue eyes, making them really stand out.

Green Eyes

If you have green eyes, a subtle red undertone can really bring them out.  Browns and beiges look great with green eyes as well.  Purples and pinks can really make them dramatic.  Green eyes really tend to pop on their own also, so experiment to find what look is right for you.

Hazel Eyes

To compliment your beautiful hazel eyes, you can enjoy a wide spectrum of shadows and eyeliners.  The one thing to avoid is too much of a blue hued liner or shadow.  It can dull down hazel eyes.  Gold, pinks, lavender, and mochas work great.

No matter what your eye color, remember to have fun, express yourself and go for the look that is most you.  For an expert consultation or to apply your eyeliner permanently, you can consult with expert make up artist Melany Witney!

What Eye Makeup Color is Right for You?

Today, funky colored eyeliner in bright shades is all the rage.  This can be a fun and definitely “right now” look, but when it comes to choosing a classic eye color, most women of all ages want the same thing, to highlight their eyes the best, and give the look of naturally youthful eyes.

This week we are going to talk about tried and true ways to choose the best eye color shade for you.  When considering what shade of eye color is right for you it is important to consider a few basic things.

Firstly, ask yourself if you want to go for the monochromatic look, or a look that will make your eyes “pop.”  If you want to go for the subtle monochromatic look, you can choose an eyeliner or eye shadow shade that is similar to your eye color.

If you would rather go for a look that makes your eyes “pop” or stand out, you’ll want to choose a color that is complementary but not the same color of your eye.  Each eye color has complementary colors that have been shown to make eyes stand out.

Stay tuned to our blog this week to find out which eye colors will best bring out your individual eye color.  In the mean time, always remember, if you’re uncertain which look is right for you, you might want to consider consulting with a professional like expert make up artist Melany Whitney, certified permanent make-up artist.

Guybrows Making Men Fans of Permanent Cosmetics

expressions, faces, facial expressions, males, men, persons,Photographs, smilesEyebrow sculpting is the hot new trend in male grooming. Men with bushy eyebrows are paying $75 a visit to have their out-of-control brows trimmed and plucked into submission at trendy salons in Manhattan and L.A. The Borat unibrow and Groucho Marx tangle are out. Today’s well-groomed man wants eyebrows that attract attention to his face without overwhelming it.

The well-groomed guybrow does not have a feminine arch. It forms a gentle curve that follows the upper contours of the eye socket. To tame bushy brows, eyebrow hair is thinned and overlong hairs are trimmed. Excessive hair growth above and below the natural brow line is removed to create a more defined brow. The goal of male eyebrow sculpting is to create a more handsome brow line without making it look “done.” Stylists sometimes leave a few stray hairs to give the brow a completely natural appearance.

For men whose problem is not too much eyebrow hair but too little, permanent cosmetics provide the perfect solution. In the hands of an experienced permanent makeup artist, individual eyebrow hairs are tattooed along the desired brow line, making eyebrows appear thicker, darker and completely natural. Permanent cosmetics can also recontour asymetrical brows and camouflage scars that mar the brow line. And because permanent eyebrows are tattooed into the skin, men don’t have to worry about them “coming off” in the shower or when they work out at the gym.

Stop Wasting Money on Pricey Cosmetics; Choose Permanent Makeup

Have you ever added up what you spend on cosmetics in a year? At $20 to $50 dollars per item, the amount of money the average woman spends on high-quality brand name and celebrity cosmetics annually can be staggering, particularly when you consider that you’re only getting a few ounces of product every time you hand over your credit card.

Unfortunately, a cosmetics purchase is not a one-time expense. You, naturally, expect to periodically replenish favorite products as you use them up; but for health reasons, many cosmetics will have to be replaced several times a year, even if they’ve barely been used. Eyeliners and mascaras, in particular, can be breeding grounds for bacteria and should be replaced every 3 months to prevent harmful eye infections.

Tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars a year for cosmetics, a growing number of women are choosing permanent makeup. A specialized form of cosmetic tattooing, permanent makeup won’t run, smear or come off on your clothing. No more getting up early to put your face on. No more quick touch-ups before you meet an important client or go out to dinner. No more bland, blank face when you wake up in the morning. With permanent makeup your face looks expertly made up 24/7 and you never have to lift a finger!

Don’t Let Your Eyebrows Dominate Your Face

I was in the grocery store checkout line just yesterday and my cashier could have been the cover girl for the Permanent Makeup Done Poorly magazine. Her eyebrows were black even though her hair was brown and the lines so sharply drawn with permanent makeup that they looked like they had been put on with a calligraphy pen stroke. The start of the brows was very angular and the taper was too narrow.

The entire effect was overwhelming and caused me to focus entirely on her eyebrows. I totally missed looking at her eyes and well groomed hair as her eyebrows dominated her face. Too bad for her, as eyebrows should draw the focus to your eyes not overwhelm them.

Melany Whitney takes a different approach to eyebrows. She colors them to compliment your hair and skin tone with custom color mixing. Then she artfully applies the permanent makeup with a technique that simulates brow hair called hair stroke simulation. The effect is complimentary to eyes and enhances eye beauty. Take a look at the eyebrow gallery on the Whitney Center for Permanent Cosmetics website and you will see exactly what I mean.

Eyebrows should compliment a face, never overwhelm it!

Male Boomers Using Permanent Cosmetics to Shave Off Years

Always the rebel, the Baby Boomer generation is being dragged kicking and screaming into their golden years — and they’re fighting back! Refusing to look older than they feel, active boomers are dying their hair, stepping up the pace at the gym, liposuctioning away stubborn fat, and rejuvenating their appearance with permanent cosmetics to retain a youthful look. While social stereotypes would make most people assume that women are at the root of this boom in anti-aging pursuits, they would be wrong. Men are leading the charge!

Staying competitive in a tight job market is the primary reason men give for rejuvenating their appearance, but late-life dating lurks in the background, unspoken but equally important to male boomers. In both the business and dating arenas, men are finding that a mature but more youthful appearance gives them back the competitive edge Mother Nature is stealing away.

In their battle against time, many men are discovering the benefits of permanent cosmetics for men.  With permanent cosmetics there is no invasive medical procedure like there is in cosmetic surgery; and results are immediate, unlike the long months of hard work required to achieve noticeable results from diet and exercise programs.

Permanent cosmetics for men can bring natural, youthful color back to pale, aging lips. It can thicken and darken thinning eyebrows. Permanent makeup for men can even camouflage hair loss. Click here to find out more about how permanent makeup for men can make you look as young as you feel.
