Summer Makeup Tips to Remember

Summer is officially here and it’s time to think about ways to get gorgeous that won’t leave you feeling like you’re face is melting away in the hot sun.   Remembert these three tips when thinking about your summer time beauty regimen.

Summer Beauty Tip # 1

With all the swimming and sweating you’ll be doing, wearing water proof mascara might seem like a no brainer, but try to avoid it as much as possible.  Some eye doctors report that water proof mascara could irritate eyes and leave residue that can build up for weeks, even with regular showers.  For easy summer beauty, you might want to instead try permanent lash enhancement, which is water proof and irritation free.

Summer Beauty Tip # 2

Summer is one season where women need to be ready for several different types of occasions.  Some days might take you directly from work to the beach and then to a formal evening party.  To be sure you’re always prepared, try carrying at least two different shades of lip gloss with you, one neutral for professional and casual affairs, and one pop of color in time of celebration.

Summer Beauty Tip # 3

Summer is a great time to think about what permanent cosmetics might help make your life easier!  Permanent cosmetics will not be affected by the heat and hot sun.  Permanent lip color, permanent brows, and permanent eyeliner are all ways to look great at the beach, literally, without even trying.

Makeup Tricks that Make you Look Younger

Sometimes women resort to drastic measures to look younger. Women may undergo painful plastic surgery procedures, many only to find the results do not turn out quite as they expected.  Instead of resorting to plastic surgery, try these makeup tricks that are proven to help women of all ages look a little younger.

If you have fine lines or wrinkles, try to forego the heavy cream foundation and powders.  Instead try something lighter like tinted moisturizer.  Unlike powder and creams that can settle into fine lines highlighting them and making you appear older, tinted moisturizer will have the opposite effect.  Moisturizing skin while providing coverage at the same time, tinted moisturizer actually smoothes fine lines.

When it comes to eye makeup, try blurring or smudging eyeliners a bit.  Since women tend to look too harsh with dramatic perfectly drawn lines, blurring eyeliner can actually soften eyes making them appear younger. It can also create the illusion of plumper, fuller, eyelashes.

When thinking about lip color as you age, try to use colors that are neutral or blend well with your natural lip color or those that are on the lighter side.  Lighter lip gloss looks much fresher, giving the appearance of fuller lips and a more youthful look.

If you would like to save time while still appearing your most youthful every day, try permanent makeup or permanent cosmetics to get an age defying makeup look that lasts forever.

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, by definition, is a cosmetic technique that employs permanent pigmentation of the dermis as a means of producing makeup like designs.  It can be used for permanent eye lining, eye brow enhancing, lip coloring or lining, and creating the look of eye shadow.  Permanent makeup can also be used to recreate the look of breast nipples after cancer surgery and can create the look of eyebrows for those whose bodies do not grow them naturally.  Permanent makeup relieves the stress of having to apply cosmetics each morning only to have to wash them off hours later.  It can save individuals time and money and can be life changing for chemotherapy patients, scar victims, and those with Alopecia.

Permanent cosmetics date back to the early part of the 20th century when tattooist George Burchett began to develop techniques for permanently applying makeup to enhance his customer’s appearances.  The techniques became very sought after by the 1930’s and have come quite a long way since.

Men and women who want to know more about permanent makeup can contact a New Jersey or New York area permanent makeup expert to set up a consultation.  Everyone has different cosmetic needs.  Why not find out specifically how permanent makeup can help you to live a more stress free, carefree, and confident life?

Protect your Skin and Permanent Cosmetics this Summer

We’ve recently discussed the importance of choosing a sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection to protect against premature aging and skin cancer.  For those with permanent cosmetics, sunscreen does more than just protect the skin.  Sunscreen keeps permanent makeup looking fresh and prevents fading.

Permanent cosmetics can be damaged by the sun’s rays year-round and summer is a time to be particularly vigilant.  Wearers of permanent cosmetics should always remember to apply sunscreen each morning and re-apply every two to three hours throughout the day.  Men and women who wear permanent makeup should follow this routine to ensure their investment is protected.

In addition to sunscreen, we recommend using Chap Stick Ultra (35 SPF Plus) or Banana Boat in stick form.  These products are great for protecting both lips and eyebrows.  Chap Stick should be applied each morning onto eyebrows, and when in the sun, Chap Stick should also be re-applied every two to three hours.  Chap Stick is easy to use, inexpensively found at the drug store, and will not run into eyes.   Remember to wear sunglasses as well.  This will even protect your permanent eyeliner.  Follow these tips to have fun in the sun this summer without damaging your permanent cosmetics.

Tips for Covering Up Scars with Makeup

Covering and disguising scars with makeup can be tough.  It is a skill that even the best professional makeup artists take time to master.  There are some tips and tricks, however, that anyone can learn to take advantage of to minimize the look of those hard-to-hide scars.  Some experts recommend trying these simple steps.

First, use foundation.  Concealer and foundation can do the trick when it comes to small or minor scars.  Just a little goes a long way when it comes to covering up any variations in color or disguising even slightly raised areas.  Try applying foundation just around and over your scars first and let it dry before applying a foundation all over your entire face.

If foundation alone doesn’t do the trick for your scar or if your scar is more noticeable or dark, try using a camouflage cream.  Camouflage cream is more heavily pigmented and thicker in consistency that average foundation.  It works well for covering up darker scars and even birthmarks.  As little as possible should be used and should only be applied over the scar.  When dry, you can try setting with a matching color finishing powder.

Although foundation and cream camouflage may work well, the cycle of applying, washing off before bedtime only to have to re-apply again the next day can be exhausting.  Remember if you are looking for a more permanent solution, you may want to try seeing a New Jersey or New York expert on permanent cosmeticsPermanent makeup can also be used to camouflage and minimize the appearance of scars on your skin.

Choose Permanent Cosmetics Technician Carefully

In the beauty profession there are always horror stories floating around. The inexpert haircut that practically scalped the client. The Botox injections that turned a face into a frozen mask. The permanent makeup job that disfigured the client’s face. Recovery from a botched haircut is merely a matter of time. A bad Botox job will, hopefully, self-correct when the effects of the filler dissipate. But poorly done permanent makeup is forever.

People whose appearance has been damaged by an inadequately trained, inexperienced or artistically-inept permanent makeup technician turn to Melany Whitney in the hope that she will be able to undo the damage and make them feel beautiful again. To these people, Melany is a savior. Nationally known as “the voice of permanent makeup,” Melany has the well-honed technical skills, broad experience, and artistic talent to correct flaws made by others and create beauty.

An innovator in the field of paramedical tattooing, Melany regularly works with plastic surgeons to hide scars and improve the appearance of facial features. When Dr. Mehmet Oz offered to restore the looks of a woman tragically disfigured in a car accident, he called upon Melany to hide scars and redefine the woman’s facial features. In a post-treatment appearance on the Dr. Oz Show, the woman tearfully told Melany and the audience that it was the first time she had felt beautiful since the accident.

If you’re considering permanent makeup, place your face in the hands of someone you can trust to achieve the beautiful results you desire.

Avoid Cosmetic-Linked Bacteria with Permanent Cosmetics

The possibility of infection begins the minute you open a new tube of mascara or unscrew the lid on a new pot of creme eye shadow. Every time you touch the point of an eyeliner pencil or glide a wand of lip gloss across your lips you are collecting and spreading potentially harmful bacteria. Makeup applicators and the makeup itself are prime breeding grounds for harmful Staphylococcus bacteria, dermatologists warn.

Makeup contamination begins from the moment you open the package of a new cosmetic. The more often you use and the longer you keep a makeup product, the greater your risk of developing a serious bacterial or fungal infection on your skin or in your eye. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received 169 reports of serious cosmetic-linked infections last year, but noted that the majority of infections attributed to cosmetics are never reported.

Contaminated makeup can cause irritation of the skin or trigger an allergic reaction. However, the most dangerous and most frequent health risk occurs when bacteria enter the eye where they can cause itching, highly contagious conjunctivitis, painful styes and, if left untreated, vision damage.

Dermatologists say creme and liquid cosmetics present the greatest risk and recommend replacing powdered makeup products every 12 to 18 months and creme or liquid cosmetics, as well as all eye makeup, every 3 months. That can be expensive if you wear quality cosmetics that often sell for $30 to $50 or more per item. The safe, cost-effective solution is permanent cosmetics.

Skin & Makeup Tips for Spring Brides

With the arrival of the spring wedding season, it’s time to pack away the heavy velvets and brocades and float down the aisle in organza and white lace.  To make sure your skin looks dewy fresh and your makeup is perfect on your big day, try these handy skin care and makeup tips:

  • To prevent breakouts on your cheek and chin before your wedding, give your cell phone a swipe each morning with an anti-bacterial wipe.
  • Wet a nubby washcloth with lotion to exfoliate gently while moisturizing.
  • Don’t take any last-minute chances with your complexion. Skip the spa facial peel; it could leave your skin red and blotchy. Instead, make an at-home mask by mixing 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon of raw oatmeal. Apply and let set, then rinse off with warm water.
  • Tweeze your eyebrows after showering while your pores are still open. It will be less painful and is less likely to leave red marks.
  • Choose a pink lipstick that is the color of your gums.
  • For golden legs, mix self-tanner with a dab of body lotion before applying to legs.
  • Correct makeup flaws by scheduling an appointment with your permanent cosmetics artist today.
