As the New York Times recently reported, non-specialists performing lucrative plastic surgery procedures they aren’t necessarily experts in is becoming an increasing trend. According to reporter Kate Murphy, more doctors, regardless of specialty, are expanding their practices to include cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast lifts, breast augmentations, liposuction, Botox and more.
United States law does not prevent doctors from practicing only within the specialty fields in which they were trained, but when doctors practice outside of their specialty areas, patient’s often end up disappointed and even injured. According to the New York Times report, one 59 year old female patient was left with thick scars on her temples and abdomen after having a facelift with a doctor who turned out to be board certified in otolaryngology, not plastic surgery.
There has been an increase in patients in need of scar revision and scar camouflage. The increased number of non-specialists providing plastic surgery may be contributing to this trend. Patients should not be afraid to ask a doctor who is advertising to be a board certified what specialty area he or she is actually certified in. The same tip applies for permanent makeup procedures. It is important to have your scar revision or nipple replacement procedures completed by a certified professional with years of experience.

Vein ligation surgery is minor surgery that removes damaged veins, eliminated unsightly and often unhealthy varicose veins from legs or anywhere else on the body. To perform vein ligation surgery, a surgeon creates a tiny incision just below each damaged vein and removes it after tying off its ends (ligation).
Vein ligation surgery is often performed for cosmetic reasons but it can be helpful for many other conditions as well. These conditions include achy legs that feel heavy or swell easily after prolonged standing, varicose vein bleeding, and damaged veins. The surgery can also prevent sores or ulcers from developing due to poor blood flow.
Many surgeons will not perform the surgery on adults who are high risk due to medical conditions, people who have very poor circulation in the arteries of their legs, people with skin infections or pregnant women. If you are healthy and do not suffer from any of these conditions, vein ligation might be right for
you. Be sure to talk to your doctor first.
Remember to keep in mind that vein ligation surgeon can cause scarring, particularly hypopigmented scarring. In other words, it can leave spots of lightened
discolored skin where damaged veins once used to be. The Melany Whitney Center for Permanent Cosmetics uses pigments that match your skin tone to expertly blend those “scarred” spots in with the rest of your skin through a process called repigmentation.

The look of your breasts is by and large one of the ways people you meet will judge you. Well-sized perky and symmetrical breasts signal youth and attractiveness to others. Fortunately for women who are currently unsatisfied by the look of their breasts, surgical procedures can be used to correct the following:
- The correction of sagging breasts, which prolapsed (fell forward) consequent to postpartum milk gland diminishment,
menopause, gross weight-loss, et cetera.
- The correction of post-explantation ptosis, the sagging of the inelastic skin envelopes, once emptied of the breast
implants.
- The treatment of congenital ptosis and pseudoptosis, as observed in conditions such as tuberous breast deformity.
- The management of acquired or relative ptosis, as seen in the post-mastectomy breast reconstruction of a bust
that is of natural and proportionate size, look, and feel.
Depending on your individual condition(s), your surgeon will choose the surgery procedure type that is right for you after first making sure that you understand the health risks and benefits associated with mastopexy. In general, your surgeon may advise you to either have a full breast lift or a modified breast lift.
It is important to remember that both full breast lifts and modified breast can leave patients with embarrassing scars. Permanent cosmetics offer a safe, effective, and pain free way to deal with many of those scars. Whether you end up needing areola restoration or scar camouflage after your procedure, the Melany Whitney Center for Permanent cosmetics can help.

If you’re in the process of scheduling a breast augmentation or breast enlargement procedure with one of the world famous surgeons in Miami, Florida, chances are you’re extremely excited about being one step closer to your new and improved breasts! Before you go under the knife, however, it is important that you know what to expect after your procedure, especially when it comes to scarring.
Scarring is generally expected after breast augmentation surgery, even if your procedure will be done in one of the plastic surgery capitals of the world. Surgeons usually insert implants through either an incision around the areola, underneath the armpit, or underneath the breasts. Therefore, you should expect to experience some type of scarring at the point of insertion or incision area. While some surgeons will perform a less scar prone procedure known as TUBA in which implants are inserted up through the belly button area, this is extremely rare.
The good news is that breast augmentation surgery scars often heal very well, and when they don’t, you will have options for treating and camouflaging them. Depending on your body’s chemistry, your incision scar might show up in the form of either a raised scar, an area of hyperpigmentation, or an area of hypopigmentation. If you happen to be one of the many women who suffer from hypopigmentation around the areola after a breast augmentation, paramedical tattooing or areola coloring will help. To learn more, consult with the experts at the Melany Center for Permanent Cosmetics.
