What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, by definition, is a cosmetic technique that employs permanent pigmentation of the dermis as a means of producing makeup like designs.  It can be used for permanent eye lining, eye brow enhancing, lip coloring or lining, and creating the look of eye shadow.  Permanent makeup can also be used to recreate the look of breast nipples after cancer surgery and can create the look of eyebrows for those whose bodies do not grow them naturally.  Permanent makeup relieves the stress of having to apply cosmetics each morning only to have to wash them off hours later.  It can save individuals time and money and can be life changing for chemotherapy patients, scar victims, and those with Alopecia.

Permanent cosmetics date back to the early part of the 20th century when tattooist George Burchett began to develop techniques for permanently applying makeup to enhance his customer’s appearances.  The techniques became very sought after by the 1930’s and have come quite a long way since.

Men and women who want to know more about permanent makeup can contact a New Jersey or New York area permanent makeup expert to set up a consultation.  Everyone has different cosmetic needs.  Why not find out specifically how permanent makeup can help you to live a more stress free, carefree, and confident life?

Protect your Skin and Permanent Cosmetics this Summer

We’ve recently discussed the importance of choosing a sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection to protect against premature aging and skin cancer.  For those with permanent cosmetics, sunscreen does more than just protect the skin.  Sunscreen keeps permanent makeup looking fresh and prevents fading.

Permanent cosmetics can be damaged by the sun’s rays year-round and summer is a time to be particularly vigilant.  Wearers of permanent cosmetics should always remember to apply sunscreen each morning and re-apply every two to three hours throughout the day.  Men and women who wear permanent makeup should follow this routine to ensure their investment is protected.

In addition to sunscreen, we recommend using Chap Stick Ultra (35 SPF Plus) or Banana Boat in stick form.  These products are great for protecting both lips and eyebrows.  Chap Stick should be applied each morning onto eyebrows, and when in the sun, Chap Stick should also be re-applied every two to three hours.  Chap Stick is easy to use, inexpensively found at the drug store, and will not run into eyes.   Remember to wear sunglasses as well.  This will even protect your permanent eyeliner.  Follow these tips to have fun in the sun this summer without damaging your permanent cosmetics.

The Many Uses of Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup or cosmetics can be great for making eyes appear larger by way of permanent eyeliner, a use many women know of, but did you know that permanent makeup can be used for a great variety of other reasons?

Permanent Makeup for Lips:

Permanent makeup can be used to create a subtle contour to the lips and can even be used to add color to the lips to bring back their youthful glow or to give the youthful glow they might have never had.

Permanent Makeup for Eyes:

Permanent makeup can not only enhance the eyes with eyeliner that lasts forever, but can also give you the perfectly shaped brows you’ve always hoped for…permanently!  You can also enhance the color of your eyelids with a light shadowy look, keeping you always looking polished and ready to go.

Permanent Makeup for Skin:

Did you know permanent makeup can actually camouflage hypopigmented areas of the skin?  This makes it a great solution for disguising certain scars or spots due to vitiligo.  Permanent makeup can even help to restore the natural look of skin in the nipple or breast areola area after mastectomy.

Permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing has been improving the lives of women and men since the 1930’s.  Find out how permanent makeup can help to improve your life by contacting New Jersey and New York’s foremost expert on permanent makeup today!

Women Seek Permanent Makeup and Other Solutions Driven Products

A new study, as reported in an April 1st article in Womens Wear Daily, shows that women spent a significant amount more in 2010 on makeup than they did the previous year in 2009.  According to market Judy Galloway, a manager Partner of G-Group, “The consumer is typically interested in brands that solve problems…”

Solution driven collections and niche products such as liquid concealers, eye shadows, and other cosmetics designed with new technologies are becoming a popular choice of both brands and consumers today.  In addition, age old, classic, tried and true products and techniques that are solutions oriented and comprehensively fill women’s needs are the among the biggest survivors in today’s competitive market.

One of those techniques is permanent makeup.  In fact, few things on the market are as solutions driven as permanent makeup. Permanent makeup or permanent cosmetics help women to maintain the look they want and need every day.  Whether it be permanent eyeliner, lip color, or brow color, permanent makeup is understandably becoming a go to solution for women in New York, New Jersey, and all over the world.  Permanent makeup is the smart solution for alopecia, tired looking eyes, pale colored lips, lack of time to spend on makeup application, and even can be the solution for women seeking to replace breast nipples after mastectomy.

Can You Tell the Difference Between Day and Evening Makeup These Days?

As women, we hear an awful lot about day wear and evening wear, day makeup and evening makeup.  Although these looks may seem simple to decipher, as times change and trends vary, lines can sometimes become blurred between makeup that should be worn during the day and makeup that should be worn during the evening.

For instance, in our last post, we discussed how bright and bold eye colors are popular for Spring and Summer 2011.  This look can be seen on the runway and has been seen on the celebrities off of the runway during both day and evening.

In sticking with tradition, although the bright and bold makeup look is a fun one to experiment with while trending, it isn’t one that usually works for most women during the day.  Lifestyles such as working with co-workers office make it not ideal due to its distracting nature.

Usually, during the day, you’ll want to try a look that is more natural and subtle.  This is not only because it is more lifestyle appropriate for most women, but also because lighting during the day can be more harsh and unflattering to bold makeup looks.  Instead, try to keep the bright and bold looks, dramatic smoky eyes, and heavier makeup for evening when lighting is often more flattering.

With permanent makeup you can get a look for everyday that is natural and subtle.  Whenever the occasion calls for more drama, simply put on a bit more mascara or eye shadow over the beautiful natural permanent makeup look you already have and you’ll be ready to go.

Should You Sleep with Your Makeup On?

Even though we’ve been told by our mothers, grandmothers, friends, and dermatologist to avoid it, many women sleep with their makeup still applied on a somewhat regular basis.  Women do this for a few different reasons.

Firstly, with our busy lifestyles, sometimes we simply “crash” into bed without being able to get ready for it.  Another reason women sleep with their makeup on is to avoid allowing their partner to see them without it during the night or when they wake up in the morning.

Sleeping with makeup on, while not the end of the world, is certainly not something that should be made into a habit as it can cause some irritating skin condition.  Dr. Neal Shultz of DermTV reminds us that sleeping with eye makeup can cause conjunctivitis as pillows move makeup into the eye causing redness, pinkness, and irritation.

Another issue, common in both younger and older women alike, that can be caused by sleeping in makeup is the creation of acne breakouts or the irritation and prolonging of acne breakouts.  When sleeping on a pillow with foundation on, makeup is pressed into the pores causing clogging and break outs.

Remember, you can avoid having to sleep in pore and eye clogging makeup by having permanent makeup applied.  Permanent eye makeup will not rub off of a pillow into the eye.  Also, by having permanent makeup applied, you’re able to go to sleep at night and wake up looking great, so there is never any need to hit the sack with goopy makeup on.

New York Makeup Artist and Wigmaker is Remembered

New Yorkers and makeup aficionados are remembering Manhattan based make-up artist and wigmaker Bob Kelly after his recent passing.

Kelly lived a life to be celebrated, entering his wigmaking and makeup career after serving as a U.S. Army private during World War II.  He earned an AP Theater Service Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars.

Kelly’s family, originally from Ireland, had a long been involved in the wig making trade, which Bob Kelly initially took up himself before becoming a makeup artist for CBS.

Kelly’s make-up artistry soon became seen on The Phil Silvers Show, Your Show of Shows, Captain Kangaroo, and for the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show.

As we remember the life of a make-up industry professional, we remember just how far the make-up industry has come and the many wonderful new technologies designed to help women (and often men as well) in New York, New Jersey, and all over the world.

The development of expert techniques in permanent makeup is another thing can truly be celebrated.  Whether you’re looking for a more natural everyday look, like those often done for television, or something more dramatic, permanent makeup can achieve it.  Whatever permanent make-up look you choose, see an expert first so you can celebrate your results for life!

Permanent Makeup Makes a Great Mothers Day Gift for New Jersey and New York Mom’s!

Looking for a unique gift this Mother’s Day?  Try Permanent Makeup.  Giving the gift of permanent makeup might just be perfect for your mom.  It could just mean giving the ultimate gift of confidence and convenience.

Mother’s who are elderly or have impaired vision might have trouble doing their make-up daily but still have the desire to look and feel their best.  Permanent makeup is the gift that keeps on giving for these moms.  It relieves stress by ensuring they feel fully dressed daily without having to worry about straining over makeup application.

Your mom, no matter what her age may have expressed a desire to get permanent eye color, eye liner, brows, or lip liner at some point in her life.  Often times, women put these things off because they simply don’t want to treat themselves!  Mother’s Day is an excellent time to give mom the permanent makeup she’s always wanted.

Since permanent makeup is wonderful no matter what your age, Mother’s Day is the perfect time for both you and mom to get the permanent eyeliner you’ve been thinking about or even the permanent brows.  Since sparse brows can sometimes run in families, permanent makeup could be a great treat for mother and daughter alike.

No matter what type of permanent makeup is right for you or your mom, make sure that you go to a professional like Melany Witney.  Melany is a world renowned expert who New York and New Jersey moms are fortunate enough to have right in their own backyard.

Choose Permanent Cosmetics Technician Carefully

In the beauty profession there are always horror stories floating around. The inexpert haircut that practically scalped the client. The Botox injections that turned a face into a frozen mask. The permanent makeup job that disfigured the client’s face. Recovery from a botched haircut is merely a matter of time. A bad Botox job will, hopefully, self-correct when the effects of the filler dissipate. But poorly done permanent makeup is forever.

People whose appearance has been damaged by an inadequately trained, inexperienced or artistically-inept permanent makeup technician turn to Melany Whitney in the hope that she will be able to undo the damage and make them feel beautiful again. To these people, Melany is a savior. Nationally known as “the voice of permanent makeup,” Melany has the well-honed technical skills, broad experience, and artistic talent to correct flaws made by others and create beauty.

An innovator in the field of paramedical tattooing, Melany regularly works with plastic surgeons to hide scars and improve the appearance of facial features. When Dr. Mehmet Oz offered to restore the looks of a woman tragically disfigured in a car accident, he called upon Melany to hide scars and redefine the woman’s facial features. In a post-treatment appearance on the Dr. Oz Show, the woman tearfully told Melany and the audience that it was the first time she had felt beautiful since the accident.

If you’re considering permanent makeup, place your face in the hands of someone you can trust to achieve the beautiful results you desire.

Skin & Makeup Tips for Spring Brides

With the arrival of the spring wedding season, it’s time to pack away the heavy velvets and brocades and float down the aisle in organza and white lace.  To make sure your skin looks dewy fresh and your makeup is perfect on your big day, try these handy skin care and makeup tips:

  • To prevent breakouts on your cheek and chin before your wedding, give your cell phone a swipe each morning with an anti-bacterial wipe.
  • Wet a nubby washcloth with lotion to exfoliate gently while moisturizing.
  • Don’t take any last-minute chances with your complexion. Skip the spa facial peel; it could leave your skin red and blotchy. Instead, make an at-home mask by mixing 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon of raw oatmeal. Apply and let set, then rinse off with warm water.
  • Tweeze your eyebrows after showering while your pores are still open. It will be less painful and is less likely to leave red marks.
  • Choose a pink lipstick that is the color of your gums.
  • For golden legs, mix self-tanner with a dab of body lotion before applying to legs.
  • Correct makeup flaws by scheduling an appointment with your permanent cosmetics artist today.
